Emily and Charlie chose a Tipi wedding set in a field near their home in Bedfordshire. I’ve know Emily for a few years now, she is also a wedding photographer and we have worked together a couple of times so I was delighted that she asked me to photograph her wedding to Charlie. Charlie and his friends were getting ready at their house which was mainly full of boys and beers. Em was at her mum and dad’s with all her mad bridesmaids doing their make-up around the kitchen table. Emily had her dress made by Soon Bride. It was pale grey silk and lace which caught the light really beautifully. They had a church wedding in the village church followed by a party in a field across the road in some tipis which were styled by White Button Weddings. Em’s cousin did the flowers, I found some remnants of her make-shift florist workshop in the garage at Emily’s parents house. It was an ace wedding full of joy, funny faces, drunken hugs, hilarious speeches, sometimes raining, sometimes not raining but the main thing that stood out is how close they are to their friends and how much love there is between them all. I’m looking forward to seeing them again next year for Charlie’s brothers wedding in Bordeaux.
Aside from an absolutely epic wedding I also discovered that Elton John wasn’t singing ‘hold me closer tie me down son.’ I’m glad that’s been cleared up. It’s Emily’s favourite record and they have a little sign in their house with the lyrics. It was one of those moments where you read it, think for a second and then go ‘ohhhhh’ to yourself.
